Meet Martha!

Welcome our latest addition to the team, Martha Lueders! Her inquisitive personality (and vast array of knowledge that assists her in trivia) makes her a great copywriter and a valued member of the BadCat team!
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in a small, farming town in southwestern Minnesota. My family lived on a hobby farm where we had an orchard, greenhouse, and several varieties of chickens. Living on the farm there were always numerous chores that had to be done, but there were also numerous shenanigans to distract you from completing them.
Where did you attend school?
“Minnesota, hats off to thee!” To my core, I blaze maroon and gold for my alma mater, the Golden Gophers. I graduated from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism with a minor in communication studies. I still love to cheer my Gophers on! Who hates Iowa? We hate Iowa.
What are some of your past employment experiences?
I’ve always been a writer. After graduation, I started working in the newspaper industry as a reporter and gradually started freelancing full-time.
Who’s your favorite BadCat and why?
If there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that I love to smile, and I’m also a fan of riddles and puns. It should be no surprise that my favorite BadCat is the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland. The Cheshire Cat is always asking the poignant questions like, “How do you run from what is inside your head?” to pointing out the obvious, “It’s always tea time.” Weird and quirky, just like me.
What’s your favorite book?
The best books are those that take you on an adventure. Though the landscape for Travels with Charley by John Steinbeck may seem mundane because it navigates through the familiar landscape of the United States, it describes the hilarious stereotypes we’ve become immune to noticing. Steinbeck made me laugh hysterically but also well up with emotion with his nearly poetic prose.
When you’re not at BadCat, what can you be found doing?
One thing is for sure, I won’t be at home! In my spare time, I’m jetting across the globe exploring new cultures.
What’s your favorite movie?
I’m a feminist, so any movie with a strong female character is high on my favorite list. Yet, I’ll always have a soft spot for Mona Lisa Smile. Julia Roberts encourages her students to challenge outdated stereotypes and empowers her female students to think of ways to blaze the way and crave their own revolutionary narratives.
What’s your go-to karaoke song?
If you’re at karaoke with me, you’re going to want to plug your ears. My go-to jams are by Whitney Houston. Not a safe choice, but always a way to get the crowd to join in.
Like what you read? BadCat is even better in person.
