Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Brainerd, MN.
Where did you attend school?
I went to Brainerd High School, but during my junior year, I attended the Regine Hildebrandt Schule near Berlin, Germany as an exchange student. I got my AAS from Central Lakes College in Brainerd.
What are some of your past employment experiences?
After starting out in restaurant work, I worked as a caregiver in an assisted living home and hospice during high school doing personal care for residents such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and medication administration. Then, I worked as an Au Pair in Fürth, Germany for a year, which allowed me to do some traveling in Central and Eastern Europe. Coming back to the U.S., I again worked in assisted living but instead worked with the physically disabled. I took on a second job with Coborn’s, Inc. and was eventually promoted to managing the Dunn Bros Coffee Shop in St. Cloud.
Who’s your favorite BadCat and why?
My own cat, Milo. My wife and I adopted him when we first moved in together. While he is a great cat, he is a terrible, terrible person. He’s whiny, he’s needy, and he refuses to clean himself. He tries to steal food whenever he thinks he can get away with it, he eats our houseplants, breaks things, and bullies our other cat who is 21-years-old. I know he knows what he’s doing is wrong. He starts caterwauling before he’s bad because he gets nervously excited about breaking the rules.
Despite or because of his bad ways, I love him. We cuddle every morning before I leave home.
What’s your favorite book?
It’s always what I’m currently reading. Right now, I’m reading Thinking, Fast and Slow by David Kahneman. The book is about heuristics, logical fallacies, decision-making, and agency. I’ve been sipping on it for a few weeks.
Honorable mentions include Dune, The Art of War, The Lord of the Rings, and Where Good Ideas Come From.
When you’re not at BadCat, what can you be found doing?
I’m usually hanging out with my wife, Tina, and our cats at home. We enjoy our solitude. If we’re feeling sociable, we might go to Tri-County Humane Society and hang out with the cats, just like we did on our first date.
Like what you read? BadCat is even better in person.
